The Flyers played the Penguins 10 teams this season. They gave up 5+ goals 8 times and lost all of those games.
Your 5v5 icetime leaders through 2 in another elimination game:
1. Radko Gudas
2. Andrew MacDonald
3. Brandon Manning
3 home games in playoffs. 3 losses.
Benched Sanheim. Benched Lindblom. Konecny from 1st to 3rd.
No timeouts.
No goalie changes.
No pressure to refs.
Bad PP and bad PK.
Bad decisions on matchups (like Filppula vs. Crosby).
Weise in 2nd PP unit.
And so much more.

Jediná a pozitivní zpráva.Hextall says Manning will not be back.
Hextall told Jori Lehtera the plan is to have him back next season.
Hextall says all the coaches will be back.
Flip stays? Oh, c'mon...Ron Hextall says they’d like to bring Valtteri Filppula back. Other pending UFAs were told the plan is not to bring them back.
Nevím no, tohle zranění je prej vážné a ani se neví zda stihne případně kemp¨AndyF píše:Morin už je zase zraněnej. Snad to pro něj bude sezona ala Ghost a příští rok to rozbalí v áčku..
No, tak vítej zpátky ve Philadelphii, Jamesi.ESPN’s John Buccigross reports the JVR deal is 5 years, $7 million per. #Flyers
Jako osobně neočekávám, že u nás zopakuje letošních 36 gólů, ale věřím, že na hranici 25-30 gólů by se pohybovat mohl a měl taky za ty prachy. No, už teď jsem zvědav jak to Haktard poskládá. We'll see.6th on the Leafs in 5v5 points, 2nd in 5v5 goals, 4th in 5v5 P/60. Call him sheltered, don't call him a PP specialist.
James van Riemsdyk had a 1.79 Goals/60 rate in 2017-18. Only Patrik Laine (1.95) and Auston Matthews (1.81) had higher rates with 50+ GP.
Rono píše:A tímto ještě prosím Captain Crunch o dodání různých statistik a analýz na osobu JVR. Thank you.
Kontrakt na 5 rokov je asi dôvod, prečo dostal o milión viac, ale rozhodne to nie nič, čo by stálo za väčšie úvahy.I was stunned when I saw how good van Riemsdyk and Kane looked in 5-on-5 play. I knew both players were strong, effective wingers. But they were really effective on their respective teams in 5-on-5 play. … Again, van Riemsdyk did so well in 5-on-5 play in Toronto that I wonder why he did not play more. His linemates weren’t scrubs. It’s possible he thrived in part because he was not taking on the big minutes like, say, Auston Matthews. I thought this would be a closer comparison, but Kane and van Riemsdyk blew me away. – John Fischer
Riemsdyk is a fantastic fit for the Flyers at even strength, a volume-shooting, scoring-chance-creating left winger who immediately slides into the open second line spot on the depth chart, behind Claude Giroux. – The Athletic
Porovnanie van Riemsdyka s E. Kane, Nash a Neal: https://www.allaboutthejersey.com/2018/ ... -neal-nashtheathletic.com píše:The fit in Philadelphia
Both stylistically and from a true talent standpoint, Riemsdyk fills a big need for the Flyers at even strength.
For the first time in years, Philadelphia has a true volume shooter on the wing. JvR, as previously noted, averaged 17.28 shot attempts per 60 at 5-on-5 over the past three seasons; Travis Konecny led Flyers forwards in 2017-18 with a 13.26 rate. Even acknowledging that Simmonds usually shoots the puck more than he did last season (his injury surely impacted his shot creation ability), van Riemsdyk’s skill set is still a much-needed one in the Philadelphia forward corps.
In addition, the Flyers simply had a need for a no-brainer top-six forward. In my early May article that broke down the team’s roster needs entering the offseason, I noted there was a clear void in the 2LW spot. That obviously has now been filled.
It takes significant pressure off Oskar Lindblom, who likely would have been pushed into a top-six role in his first full NHL season had Hextall and the Flyers sat on their hands when it came to adding winger help. Lindblom remains close to a lock to make the big club out of camp next year, but now he can slide into a comfortable third line spot to start. If he performs well, of course, he could move up.
Assuming the Flyers reunite the Giroux-Couturier-Konecny top line trio that was so effective over the second half of 2017-18, the best guess here is that JvR will start out on Line 2 with Nolan Patrick and Jakub Voracek. Most likely, he’ll receive more difficult assignments and more minutes with that line than he did with Bozak in Toronto, but Voracek is also better than any of his most recent regular linemates (Marner included), and Patrick is an ascending player as well. Van Riemsdyk will get a quality-of-competition increase, but it will come with a quality of teammate boost as well.
On the power play, the immediate fit is less obvious. With the Maple Leafs, JvR thrived as a netfront presence, and that job obviously is held in Philadelphia by Simmonds, probably the best player in hockey in that particular role. So where would van Riemsdyk fit, assuming Simmonds remains on the roster in October? Teams don’t give a goal scorer $7 million per year and then not give him a prime power play role. Hextall acknowledged on Sunday afternoon that he didn’t have a clear answer to the conundrum.
“I don’t know what’s going to happen there,” he said. “Hak [and I], we’ve talked long and hard about it. We know James is a very good netfront [player]. He’s got great hands, he’s got good size. We feel like this addition with our power play, we can put out two really good units. He gives us another left shot, which we needed. We’ve got Patty, we’ve got Konecny, we’ve got the two young defensemen on the backend, so where everybody winds up, I don’t know. That’s one of those things you try in training camp, and there’s a chemistry thing there, so I don’t know where it’s going to shake out. But we feel pretty comfortable that the power play has taken a step here.”
The Flyers have a few options to accommodate JvR. Option No. 1 is the path of least resistance — keep Simmonds on PP1 and just have van Riemsdyk play on the second unit, in the hopes that he can provide a boost to that usually-weak group. Hextall’s comments hint that is a possibility, and a five-man unit of JvR, Patrick, Konecny, Lindblom and Ivan Provorov certainly seems like it has potential on paper.
Option No. 2 is similar in concept, but different in execution. JvR could always usurp Simmonds as PP1 netfront option, befitting his massive contract. In 2017, that possibility would have seemed ridiculous, but Simmonds did lose his spot on the top unit at the tail end of the 2017-18 regular season and into the playoffs. It’s at least plausible that Philadelphia might want team leader Wayne Train to boost the moribund second unit rather than tasking the new addition with that job.
The third option is the most intriguing, though it would involve a full-scale adjusting of the top unit’s structure. Van Riemsdyk could theoretically replace Couturier on PP1, as he does possess the requisite left-handed shot that is necessary for Giroux to have a one-timer option in the slot.
Some NHL teams — Anaheim is one prominent example — use their slot/bumper power play forward as a semi-netfront player as well. The result is two players often hovering around the crease, with one on each side. It would require more regular motion from the top unit, but first-year assistant coach Kris Knoblauch did start to make those types of tweaks to PP1 last season. It’s not crazy to think that Knoblauch might get even more creative with JvR now in the mix.
The possibly-awkward power play fit does raise concerns. If JvR doesn’t stick on the top unit, it will be difficult for him to live up to the $7 million cap hit from a raw production standpoint. But at even strength, the fit is near-perfect. The Flyers needed a top-six-caliber, goal-scoring winger capable of keeping his head above water from a play-driving standpoint. They got one.
